A TOWN WITH AN ACTIVE INVOLVED COMMUNITY
The Worthing tradition of voluntary action to support local initiatives and active citizenship is something the town can be proud of. The voluntary and community sector requires further support and strengthening to enable it to be an equal partner with other sectors in achieving a better quality of life for all people.
The Town We Want
Worthing will be a community in which voluntary action is a strong contributor to improving quality of life and where communities have opportunities to shape their local neighbourhoods. There will be a robust and valued voluntary and community sector, providing a wide range of high quality services, as well as a range of options for community involvement.
What Worthing Together is going to do now
- Raise awareness of opportunities for people to get involved in their local communities;
- Strengthen the Voluntary Sector Forum, which is the voice of the local voluntary and community sector;
- Develop joint funding by statutory partners;
- Carry out a needs audit of the voluntary and community sector;
- Establish a local agreement (Compact) to strengthen relations between the voluntary and public sectors;
- Involve the community with agencies in identifying and solving problems in their areas with pilot projects in Durrington and East Worthing.
What Worthing Together is going to do in the longer term
- Develop responses to address the needs emerging from the voluntary/community sector audit;
- Develop the services of Worthing Volunteer Bureau for involving local people in voluntary work.
How you can get involved
